Day 1: Arrival & Introductory Ride
Upon arrival, enjoy a light lunch and take in the relaxed atmosphere of Kei Mouth. After a safety briefing, mount up for an easy introductory ride to get familiar with your horse and the terrain. Later, unwind with dinner and a restful night at your Kei Mouth accommodation.

Day 2: Morgan Bay Exploration
Start your day with a lazy breakfast, allowing yourself to ease into the rhythm of African time. Mount up and head toward Morgan Bay, where you’ll ride along the beach, over dramatic cliffs, and through the charming village. After a leisurely lunch in Morgan Bay, enjoy a relaxed ride back. Time to explore Kei Mouth or spend the late afternoon at a nearby pub, taking in the sunset over the river.

Day 3: Coastal Ride to Seagulls
Set off on a spectacular ride, crossing the Great Kei River on the ferry, and then along the coastline toward Seagulls Beach Hotel. Take in the sweeping ocean views and enjoy the thrill of riding along the rolling dunes. You arrive at Seagulls in time for a relaxed pub lunch and dip in the pool. During the afternoon there’s time to explore the nearby shoreline, unwind on the beach deck, take in the tranquil surroundings or take an optional ride out in the afternoon.

Day 4: Waterfalls & Village Life
Today’s ride takes you inland to explore hidden waterfalls and the traditional rural villages of the Eastern Cape. Experience the rich local culture as you ride through scenic landscapes. Enjoy a picturesque picnic lunch before heading back. The rest of the late afternoon is yours to relax—swim in the pool or stroll along the beach in search of seashells.

Day 5: Ride to Wavecrest
The journey continues as you ride toward Wavecrest, crossing rolling headlands and keeping an eye out for playful dolphins in the surf. If conditions allow, cross the river mouth on horseback, or take the inland route for an equally scenic ride. Arrive at Wavecrest in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon soaking in the spectacular views, unwinding in the jacuzzi on the deck, or enjoying the pool and spa facilities.

Day 6: Endless Beaches & Scenic Loops
With the tide on your side, cross the river at low tide and explore the seemingly endless beaches of the Wild Coast. Enjoy the freedom of galloping across open sands before looping back through ravines and rocky streams, returning to Wavecrest in time for lunch. The afternoon is yours—relax with a spa treatment, swim in the pool, or paddle along the tranquil estuary in a kayak. An optional ride is available in the afternoon.

Day 7: Return to Kei Mouth
Savour the final long ride back to Kei Mouth, reliving the highlights of your adventure as you retrace your path along the coastline. Stop for a well-earned pub lunch before arriving back at the horse yard. In the evening, celebrate your journey with a delicious seafood platter at The Yard, reminiscing about the week’s adventures.

The Wild Coast Meander Trail is for a wide range of confident riders and guests should be comfortable in walk, trot and canter for up to 3 or 4 hours in the saddle at a time. We have a lovely selection of horses that suit a wide range of riding abilities from confident novice level up.
The weight limit is 90 kg
Your riding ability is required on the booking form.
CONFIDENT NOVICE RIDER = someone who can do rising trot confidently and is comfortable in a light seat canter (we will show you). A reasonable good level of fitness is required to enable you to be able to keep up with the ride.
INTERMEDIATE RIDER = someone who rides regularly and enjoys a forward well-schooled horse. They can control their horse independently and are confidently trotting and in controlled canters in open spaces.
EXPERIENCED RIDER = someone who is comfortable on most horses in most situations. They ride regularly and may or may not have their own horse. They have a good seat and gentle hands. They can ride in a light seat and can hold a strong horse in a fast canter.
